Broncos release former Cal RB CJ Anderson

The Denver Broncos cut running CJ Anderson on Monday, according to multiple media reports. His yards-per-carry average was just 4.1, however, and his production over the last couple years did not entirely justify the cap hit he would have carried in 2018.

DENVER, CO - OCTOBER 01: C.J. Anderson #22 of the Denver Broncos tries to break free from Nicholas Morrow #50 of the Oakland Raiders at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on October 1, 2017 in Denver, Colorado. He should be able to find a new home relatively soon.

Anderson, 27, spent his first five years in the league with the Broncos after going undrafted in 2013. He also added in 28 receptions for 224 receiving yards and four total touchdowns.

The Broncos have the No. 5 pick in next week's NFL Draft and might target Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

Anderson's release leaves Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson as the only running backs on the roster. Miami now has veteran Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake in their backfield.
