Warriors back to form, top Spurs

For the second year in a row, the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs will meet in the National Basketball Association playoffs. The Spurs finished with an efficiency rating of 38 percent in the paint but received only 13 opportunities with a player getting his first touch of a possession in the paint, which registered as 16 fewer chances than the Warriors.

Warriors guard Klay Thompson said they "absolutely" wanted to make a statement in Game 1. The Coyote and the Spurs Silver Dancers will join in on the festivities alongside DJ Quake and Spurs In-Arena Host Chuck Cureau.

Add it all up, and the Warriors have a commanding 1-0 series lead over San Antonio for the same reasons the Warriors swept the Spurs in the 2017 Western Conference finals. The Spurs 2018 Playoffs are presented by H-E-B. "We know. We're going to show that".

At the root of the Warriors' decisive postseason debut were two lineup changes.

San Antonio will try to adjust before Monday's Game 2, but the Warriors looked so much better than them on Saturday, I have a hard time believing that the Spurs stand much of a chance to win a game in this series.

Embiid was a spectator in Game 1 of the first-round series because of a broken orbital bone around his left eye. He'll need help from Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala if the Warriors are to cruise into the second round. The Sixers could end this one early with Embiid back in the lineup soon. The Spurs did not have enough depth with star Kawhi Leonard still sidelined with a quadriceps injury that has kept him out for all but nine games this season.

It is generally accepted that the Warriors will perspire some, feel a degree of burn in their lungs, receive an urgency slap in the face and get pushed toward the edge of their defending championship throne once they play a team from Texas. He was a force on offense, and, more importantly, played stellar one-on-one defense against All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, the Spurs' go-to offensive threat.

And given the way they played on Saturday, they might have sandbagged the entire league. "I was talking with several coaches and execs from teams in the West morass from 3 to 8, 9", Lowe said. "Win or lose, we had to bring the effort on the defensive end". The trio of Thompson, Durant and Green did their usual damage, but the seamless transition into the starting roles by McGee and Iguodala made the difference and left the Spurs in the dust. The math just doesn't work for the Spurs, and they have no answer for Durant.

"Every day has been something good, advancing the rehab process", Curry told reporters. He shared game-high assist honors with Durant with eight. "We were overreacting to a lot of things because we're so excited we're in the playoffs, and playing the best team in the world". The Spurs are going to have to find some scoring options and quickly: they simply can't expect that Golden State is going to go frigid from the floor multiple times in a seven game series.
