Barbara Bush, the wife of former president President George H.W. Bush and mother of former President George W. Bush will no longer seek medical treatment after several hospitalizations, according to a spokesperson for the family.

The former first lady, the statement said, "will instead focus on comfort care".

He did not elaborate as to the nature of Mrs Bush's health problems.

Bush, the wife of one US president and the mother of another USA president, has struggled with health issues due to COPD for several months.

She is also grandmother to George P. Bush, the current land commissioner of Texas. "She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving", the statement continued.
