'Newton' adjudged best Hindi film at National Film Awards 2018

We have not recovered from the loss of the beloved actress till now, but the resonance of Sridevi's presence in everyone's life can still be felt as she was awarded the National Award for the Best Actress at the 65th edition of the awards today. It feels fantastic to know that the whole country thought my role in Newton was one of my best and to win the Special Mention Award at the highest film awards in India is just exhilarating.

In a career spanning over four decades, Sridevi had featured in films like Sadma, Gumrah, and English Vinglish among the many other films that saw her versatility as an actor. In Tollywood, "The Ghazi Attack" directed by Sankalp Reddy won the Best Telugu Film Award, while "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" won three National Awards for Best Action Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Last year, Akshay Kumar bagged the Best Actor award for Rustom.

Thanking the jury for awarding Newton, Masurkar said in a statement: "I hope this award and the film's commercial success creates a bigger space for relevant political cinema". He said, the standard of the regional cinema is world-beating.

Indira Gandhi Award For Best Debut Film Of A Director was given to the Jasari language movie "Sinjar" directed by Pampally. "My director and co-actors made it so easy for me to act in this film".

"I just heard about it". Actress Divya Dutta also won the best supporting actress award for Irada. Ganesh Acharya has won the award for Best Choreography for the song Goli Tu Lath maar in Toilet Ek Prem Katha. I'm really happy it's a great news for me because it was our film. The film was also recognised for original screenplay, while the best dialogues went to Odiya film "Hello Arsi".

Riddhi Sen was recognised as the best actor for Kaushik Ganguly's "Nagarkirtan", which was also bagged awards in multiple categories, such as the best costume, makeup and special jury.
