Xiaomi Redmi 5 launch in India today at 3 pm

The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro were introduced last month in the country, and boast narrow-bezel display and enhanced camera features as their highlights. Those who are interested can sign up for the live stream of Redmi 5 on the Xiaomi website by logging into their Mi.com accounts or using their Facebook account.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 could officially be unveiled in India today at 3 PM after the company all but confirmed the launch via a tweet on 13 March.

Xiaomi has been teasing the upcoming Redmi phone or the Redmi 5 for quite some time now. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage.

The company has announced that the Redmi 5A will now be available at its original price of Rs. 5,999 through online retailer Flipkart as well as company's own online store in India. Smartphones running MIUI 9 should also benefit from higher speeds when launching applications through the addition of three new optimizations including intelligent CPU acceleration, optimized thread scheduling, and optimized haptic feedback.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is available in four colour options including Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Lake Blue. This means, in India we can expect the Redmi 5 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model to be priced around Rs 7,000, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage could cost around Rs 8,500.

However, we like to remind our readers that some Xiaomi phones (both Mi and Redmi series), particularly low-end models, will not be able to get all the MIUI 9 features due to their hardware limitations. The other goodies on board the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support and a 3300mAh battery. It is speculated that the phone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC with a CPU clocked at up to 1.8 GHz along with an Adreno 506 graphics chip. In terms of camera, the phone has a 12MP rear camera coupled with 5MP front camera. The device is expected to hit the India shores with nearly the same specifications.
