Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast discusses revival possibilities

Speaking at the INTV conference in Jerusalem, Newman stopped short of confirming that Buffy was returning to TV screens soon, joking that if he did that he wouldn't be able "to get out of the building alive". Fox says it's up to Whedon to bring "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" back. "And until Joss decides it's time, it won't happen", he said. So many shows have used Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a jumping off point at this point that a reboot would have to do something decidedly different to adapt itself to where the cultural conversation now lies.

"It's something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with", he said.

Many broadcast networks are in the business of reviving their fan-favorite TV shows from the 1990s and early 2000s, including FOX, which has revivals of The X-Files, 24, Prison Break, and the upcoming Greatest American Hero. "And until Joss decides it's time, it won't happen". Whedon has made a return to the series in a way; he has been confirmed as co-writer of the upcoming season of the comic book series that picked up where the television series left off.

But Newman said, "Reboots aren't actually a focus for us. Most of the time it starts with a creator coming in", Newman explained. "Buffy Speak" has been adopted by multiple shows, and having complex but flawed female heroines, with a touch of glam, is more the norm. However, the network has built up a reputation for bringing back their successful series.

Sure ... either way, while I get why the series is still big enough to be considered a worthwhile investment, I would argue that we don't need a reboot of Buffy-not now, anyway. There are several Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcasts like "Buffering" or "Buffy Talk".

Whedon had once looked at continuing the story as a movie, but news on a Buffy revival has so far been confined to comics and novels. If we did it with these guys, they'd be the age they basically are.

Lost Girl, Wynonna Earp, Being Human, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Misfits, Killjoys, The Magicians, and many others have all taken from the Buffy mold.

So would the Buffy fanbase be up for a revival?
