The $199 Fitbit Versa Is "the Lightest Metal Smartwatch in the US"

If the design looks familiar, that's because it's a redesign of the company's old fitness tracker, the Fitbit Ultra.

So Fitbit went back to the drawing board, and its new smartwatch - the $200 Versa - is designed for everyone, not just dudes with giant wrists.

The Fitbit Versa is going on sale this April for $199. Like the Apple Watch, you'll be able to customize the clockface and choose from a variety of accessory bands, including leather, metal, and woven ones.

As we mentioned above, the lack of Global Positioning System sets out the Fitbit Versa as a device that might not appeal to those who need precise location information. But the Versa is the thinnest, lightest aluminum smartwatch I've ever tried on, which should make it more comfortable to wear all day and night.

Announced alongside the Fitbit Ace fitness tracker for kids, the £199.99 Versa sports the same PurePulse heart rate and SpO2 sensors you get in the Ionic, but it does so in a much more slender and attractive design. The Fitbit Versa Special Edition, including Fitbit Pay, is available for $229.95.

Fitbit claims there are now 500 apps and watch faces on the Fitbit OS app store, with 5000 developers on board.

Melanie Chase, Fitbit's vice president of marketing, said the Versa is a "great opportunity to bring more women into the smartwatch category", which is about 60 percent male.

The watch focuses on Female Health Tracking. Adult Fitbit users who identify as female will be able to log their menstrual cycles and record symptoms directly in the Fitbit app. In upcoming updates, the Fitbit will support functionality that allows women to track their menstrual cycles - a feature that many use a separate dedicated app for. "We wanted to be the first to give women a complete picture of their health".

The Fitibit Versa promises 4 days of battery life, the battery takes just two hours to charge fully. Versa's health and fitness features include: ● Personalized fitness guidance: Enhanced 24/7 PurePulse heart rate tracking, on-screen personal workouts from Fitbit Coach, 6 15+ Exercise Modes, Connected GPS, swim tracking with water resistance up to 50 meters, plus automatic activity and exercise tracking. But Fitbit is obviously hoping that you will. The new wearable, which is essential a scaled down version of the company's entry level Alta tracker, is aimed squarely at kids aged eight to 13. Parents can add to the ace to a family account on their own mobile device to track their kids' activity.

There have also been some tweaks to the way in which data is displayed on your wrist in what Fitbit is calling an integrated dashboard. The Fitbit Ace arrives during the second quarter of 2018. Recent federal data shows the rate of childhood obesity in the U.S. The range of bands available also looks to be trying to take on the Apple Watch in the fashion stakes.

That last bit is important, as these products represent a new push against the Apple Watch, which is closing in on Fitbit's market share. The Versa is much slimmer and more lightweight than my Series 3.
