Mehbooba Mufti drops Haseeb Drabu from cabinet

The PDP has had a rocky relationship with the BJP. "His style of working and his arrogance has devastated the party in last three years, as if he was the guardian of all the wisdom in this world", said the MLA.

Sources said that after a meeting between Mehbooba and senior PDP leaders, a letter was sent to J&K Governor N N Vohra, informing him about the removal of Drabu on grounds of violation of party norms.

"On continuing into the party the decision on Dr Drabu is yet to be taken", sources added. Drabu, a leader of the state's ruling Peoples Democratic Party, was speaking at an event called Kashmir: The Way Forward in New Delhi on March 9. "I think we have been barking up the wrong tree".

Drabu refused to comment on his unceremonious exit. Resultant, annoyance of lawmakers from the PDP and the opposition party as well. If there is no political issue - what gap does PDP want to bridge?

"The decision (to drop him) was taken by the chief minister on Monday". In 2014, he won on a PDP ticket from South Kashmir's Rajpura constituency. "And if it only a social issue, as the Minister has claimed, then why has India and Pakistan fought four wars over Kashmir", said NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar. A person aware of development said that a formal announcement was imminent. He is also unofficially credited for his major contribution to PDP's vision document 'Self Rule'.

He was the economic advisor to the state during the PDP-Congress coalition that came to power after the 2002 elections. "Now that they have removed him, makes no sense".

"He paid the price for whatever he said to an audience of ambassadors in New Delhi". He is said to be close to BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who is party's point man in Kashmir.

Drabu was made finance minister of Jammu and Kashmir by late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed when the PDP stitched an alliance with the BJP, in which Drabu played a pivotal role while negotiating the terms and conditions of the "Agenda of Alliance". He was accused of "sellout" for "mortgaging" state's financial autonomy by implementing GST in J&K.
