Chiefs to sign WR Sammy Watkins

Former Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs when free agency begins Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Final terms of the #Chiefs expected deal for WR Sammy Watkins: 3 years, $48M with $30M fully guaranteed at signing, sources say.

Since he came into the National Football League in 2014, Watkins is fourth in yards per reception (15.9) among players with 100 or more catches in that span. The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder has never quite lived up to his first-round hype but he has still put up decent numbers.

Watkins previously underwent two surgical procedures on his troublesome left foot and also had hip surgery after the 2014 season. Watkins has flashed moments of absolute brilliance throughout his career in Buffalo and Los Angeles, but he's had to balance his desire to be an Odell Beckham-esque, 10-target-per-game player with lingering health issues and serious changes in offensive scheme.

Watkins, 24, spent last season with the Los Angeles Rams, catching 39 passes for 593 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 regular-season games.

The Rams acquired Watkins early last August, sending cornerback E.J. Gaines and 2018 second-round pick to the Bills.

Hitchens had 84 tackles in 12 starts in 2017. Hitchens' ability to play all three linebacker spots helped the Cowboys deal with injuries to Lee and Jaylon Smith.
