The Ford Mustang GT California Special is back this summer!

Unlike the 2019 Mustang Bullitt, whose 5.0-liter V-8 has been tuned to deliver an additional 15 horsepower for a new total of 475 hp, there's no extra power to be had with the 2019 Mustang GT California Special, meaning it runs the stock 460-hp rating.

The Mustang GT California Special was first released in 1967 after being inspired by the Shelby GT coupe prototype, according to the automaker.

The modern vehicle, based on the V-8-powered Mustang GT, gives a nod to the original with a blacked-out grille and a stripe that traces from the "5.0" front fender badge to a rear fender scoop. Inside, the GT/CS wears black Mako suede-trimmed seats with embossed insignia and contrast red stitching, GT/CS embroidered floor mats, and a California Special badge affixed to the passenger-side dashboard. To get the fancy 6-speed manual with rev-matching, you need to opt for the 6-speed and available Performance Package. It's like an automatic heel/toe downshift and, with the new exhaust, probably will sound awesome.

"No doubt, 2019 is an exciting year for Mustang enthusiasts, especially fans of our California Special and Bullitt models", said Corey Holter, Ford vehicle group marketing manager.

The 5.0L V8 engine makes 460hp and 420 lb-ft of torque giving the auto a top speed of 155mph.

Ford has announced that the legendary California Special package will return for the 2019 Mustang pony vehicle. It appeared on stage with a surviving dark Highland green.
