Orange to face Arizona State in the NCAA Tournament

Arizona State has scuffled for the last two-plus months of the season.

The victor of the Syracuse-Arizona State game will face TCU in Detroit on Friday. The Sun Devils were ranked as high as third in the nation after marquee wins against Kansas (the top seed in the Midwest), Xavier (the top seed in the West) and San Diego State (11-seed in the West).

The Arizona Wildcats won the Pac-12 title on Saturday behind forward Deandre Ayton's 32 points on 14-for-20 shooting. But after an underwhelming conference record of 8-10 and an opening round loss to Colorado in the Pac-12 tournament, the Sun Devils were very much on the bubble. The other schools - Louisville, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and USC - did not make it as at-large teams.

As you know by now, the Syracuse University men's basketball is going dancing in 2018.

Syracuse was in jeopardy of heading back to the NIT after producing just four Quadrant 1 wins and awful losses to Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, but the Orange's 18th-ranked strength of schedule and late wins over Louisville, Miami, and Clemson were enough to convince the committee.

Arizona also had a lot change since the beginning of the year.

In all, seven teams from the Big 12 made the tournament, including 10-seed Texas, which will play Nevada on Friday in Nashville.

Arizona State and Syracuse were among the last four teams to make the field and will play in a play-in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday.
