BBC finally reveals who will play Lyra in His Dark Materials

Dafne Keen, the young breakout star of Logan, is also in final talks to join the project as the main character, Lyra, a young orphan girl who finds herself thrust into a risky adventure when she sets out to find a kidnapped friend.

His Dark Materials is the epic story of Lyra, a young girl who lives in another dimension where every person has their own personal dæmon.

Keen is best known for playing Wolverine's daughter, X-23, in Marvel's Logan.

It'll be directed by The King's Speech director Tom Hooper.

Many are interested to see what Keen tackles next, and it appears that she is staying in the fantasy/sci-fi realm with the highly anticipated miniseries based on Philip Pullman's popular series of novels, His Dark Materials. National Treasure and Wonder writer Jack Thorne is writing the script and in Northern Lights, we're introduced to Lyra whose search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. It was announced in 2015 that Bad Wolf, a production company founded by former BBC execs, would be teaming with HBO for an 8-episode miniseries, but it's been a bit quiet since then.

The new series is expected to be one of the most expensive British dramas to date and if done right, - unlike The Golden Compass - this could be very, very special. According to Deadline, Netflix and Apple are contenders to distribute the series. The first book, which was also titled Northern Lights in some parts of the world, was not-so-famously adapted into the 2007 movie The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman. Per the report, the deal is signed and Hooper is on board to oversee the series from former BBC executivesJane Tranter and Julie Gardner's Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema.
