Sarah Sanders attempt to explain recent Trump tweet embarrassingly bad, possibly illegal

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday that the president had spoken to Sen.

"The categorical thing that I've seen in so much coverage. that it is an abject fact that the previous administration was tougher than this administration is provably false", a third official said.

Trump's tweet is his latest attack on his attorney general over Russia and special counsel Robert Mueller's probe, which returned 13 indictments against Russians last week for their alleged role in meddling in the 2016 election.

Sanders was responding to Karl's question surrounding the President's fiery tweets over the weekend; where he urged the Federal Bureau of Investigation to refocus their efforts as the Russian-Trump collusion narrative continues to crash and burn. That statement doesn't seem to reflect reality, however.

President Donald Trump slammed the attorney general on Wednesday, calling on his more than 48 million Twitter followers to "ask Jeff Sessions" why the Obama administration is not the focus of the special counsel's Russian Federation probe.

Trump repeatedly challenged the veracity of the mounting evidence about Russian interference in the 2016 campaign. Trump and Putin discussed election interference in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2017.

NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker asked Sanders on Tuesday whether Trump acknowledges that Russian Federation meddled in the election in light of the highly-detailed list of allegations released by Mueller's office last week.

"He said he didn't meddle". Sanders said Trump "absolutely" concurs with the assessment and had done so on many previous occasions. Trump tweeted Wednesday. "Why didn't Obama do something about the meddling?"

Prior to setting his sights on Obama, Trump often called on Sessions and the FBI to investigate Hillary Clinton, his former Democratic rival. Trump said it would help the US save money with a diminished payroll in Russian Federation.

Russian Federation will hedge against the risks in the defence industry market caused by unfair competition of the USA, the Kremlin has said.

That includes North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey, which has publicly announced the purchase of a Russian S-400 air defense missile system, which is seen as a challenge to USA air superiority.

Sanders later said that Trump has been focused on penalizing Russian Federation on a number of fronts, including approving lethal arms sales to Ukraine and shoring up the US's cyber defenses, critical election infrastructure, and the defense budget.

Sanders, asked Tuesday if the president believes Russian Federation meddled in the election, gave the strongest acknowledgement yet from the White House. It's also very clear that it didn't have an impact on the election.

At the same time, though, Sanders defended Trump's decision not to impose sanctions earlier this year.

Specifically, the Russian nationals allegedly impersonated American grassroots activists to distribute pro-Trump material and communicate with "Trump campaign staff" involved in local community outreach for "Florida Goes Trump" grassroots rallies.
