Lazio and De Vrij will part ways this summer, while Manchester United…

On Tuesday, De Vrij took to Instagram to confirm that he would leave the Serie A club at the end of the season after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

Stefan de Vrij is ready to step out of his "comfort zone" at Lazio after offering Manchester United and Liverpool hope of securing his signature.

Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij looks likely to leave in June with his contract renewal having been withdrawn, according to the the Italian club's sporting director. It was a choice made after many months of negotiations, but there is also a limit to how things went.

"We will thank him for what he did in the past and what he will do, but at the end of the season our roads are divided".

"It's a matter of fairness".

Everton are also interested in the 26-year-old Holland worldwide, who plays as a centre back and has won 31 caps for his country.

Liverpool can at least offer De Vrij the chance to partner global teammate Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Liverpool defence, whilst Champions League football would certainly aid their bid. This is not the opportune time to give the reasons for this decision, but we had to give a response and we gave it this evening.

Lazio were keen not to lose De Vrij, especially on a free transfer, but he revealed on his official Facebook profile on Tuesday he will be leaving at the end of the season, with a move to the Premier League mooted.

"It's best to look ahead, Lazio has grown a lot these past few years and will continue do to so".

Liverpool have been linked since last Autumn, and in November we covered claims from Italy which detailed the Anfield interest but stated De Vrij had agreed to extend with Lazio, and would have a €25m release clause. "The only thing not in short supply in the world are players".
