Amazon rules out Portland for second headquarters

Amazon is focused primarily on large cities on the East Coast, from Boston to Miami.

The company tweeted a message Thursday morning that it had narrowed the search down from nearly 240 cities down to 20.

Amazon Inc. rejected several CT proposals for its second headquarters, announcing Thursday the selection of 20 jurisdictions as finalists in the online retailer's closely-watched competition. The announcement comes almost three months after Miami submitted its proposal to bring the company's hub to South Florida.

A total of 238 cities applied for it. The bid was separate from proposals from Kansas City and St. Louis. "Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals".

Catherine Smith said Thursday she spoke with a top Amazon official who said the application was "very strong" but the "data-driven selection process that was used favored more metropolitan areas". The Lilac City threw its name into the hat this summer, hoping to benefit from the 5 billion dollars, and 50 thousand jobs the headquarters would bring. "Really, it will be pervasive in terms of impact", Duerk said.

Amazon expects to make it's final decision sometime this year.
