Pele, 77, in Hospital for Exhaustion After Collapsing

The incident has prevented Pele from embarking on his planned trip to London this weekend.

The 77-year-old used a wheelchair at the draw for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation in December, which was his last major public appearance.

Brazil legend Pele is resting at home according to his spokesperson, who dismissed reports he had been taken to hospital with exhaustion. Thankfully, there is no suggestion of anything more serious than exhaustion'. Earlier this week Pele reportedly appeared frail while attending the opening ceremony of the Carioca state championships in Rio de Janeiro.

He was slated to appear at an FWA dinner in London on Sunday but pulled out of the event following his collapse.

"But after discussions with Pele and his team, he has insisted the event should continue, not least because many of Pele's friends are travelling from overseas to be with us on Sunday".

He was a guest in Moscow on 1 December, 2017, where the draws for the World Cup matches were made. There, he met President Vladimir Putin and was joined by fellow footballing great, Argentina icon Diego Maradona.

"I think [Russia] will be very important for [Brazil]".

He is being monitored in hospital in Brazil, FWA said.

Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time.

Although Pele is still planning to attend this year's FIFA World Cup in Russia, Fornos said the Brazil great has reduced his worldwide schedule lately so he can do more physiotherapy to deal with his hip problems.
