Josh McDaniels 'Clear Favorite' For Colts' Head Coach Job

The Titans job remains a wildcard in this potential hire, since a decision to make a coaching change could reunite McDaniels with former Patriots executive Jon Robinson.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is the "clear favorite" to replace Chuck Pagano as the Colts' next head coach.

It's looking increasingly likely that the New England Patriots will be in the market for two new coordinators in 2018.

However, critics of McDaniels will point out that his success could simply be a byproduct of the legendary combination of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, whose success continues to transcend the sport of professional football.

Colts' former head coach, Chuck Pagano, was let go after six seasons with the team following their win over the Texans in the final game of the 2017 season on December 31. In addition, the Colts already have an established quarterback in Andrew Luck, who missed all of last season due to a shoulder injury.

Here's the more important question: Does McDaniels want the Colts? He has begun arranging for a number of assistants to join him as his coordinators, including Cowboys linebacker coach Matt Eberflus who would be McDaniels top choice as a defensive coordinator.

Since the first of the year, the search has been on to find the next head coach for the team.

Regardless, it appears as though the Colts may have to wait until early February before formally hiring McDaniels and allowing him to assemble a new coaching staff.
