DU student crushes man with his BMW vehicle at North Campus

A 50-year-old man died after he was hit by a BMW driven by a Delhi University student in North Campus, police said on Friday. The youth, identified as Abhinav Saini, was later released on bail. Sahni is said to be a first-year B.A. student studying at the Khalsa College, New Delhi. The victim, seeing the vehicle, makes a dash to cross the road but is hit by the auto.

The CCTV footage of the incident has now been out. The victim was flung in the air before he fell on the road.

The BMW was coming from Kamla Nagar market, when it hit Shiv Nath, who was crossing the road. He was declared dead at a nearby hospital. The footage shows the auto stopping for a few seconds, before fleeing from the crime scene.

The student told the police that the victim had come in front of his auto from out of nowhere and so he could not apply the brakes in time, NDTV reported.

On the basis of the CCTV footage, the accused was identified and arrested on January 11. As he was inquiring about the accident, vagabonds at the spot started abusing and threatening him, following which he panicked and fled.
