The retail giant Walmart is shutting the doors to 63 Sam's Club locations across the U.S.

Sam's Club's statement on Twitter said,"After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we've made a decision to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy".

The Sam's Club location at 12919 San Pedro Ave. will permanently close January 26, said Anne Hatfield, a spokeswoman for parent company Walmart. "Closing clubs is never easy and we're committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition".

Sixty-three Sam's Club's locations are closing, including ones in Stanton and Sylmar. The store will reopen Friday before permanently closing in two weeks. Come to BJ's, is the message from the competitor store.

This announcement comes on the heels of so many similar announcements by companies like AT&T and Comcast, claiming that the new tax system allows these companies to give more money to their employees.

As a member of Sam's Club, you are entitled to a refund at any time if you are not satisfied, the company says on its website.

Earlier in the day Wal-Mart said it would raise entry-level wages for US hourly employees to $11 an hour in February as it benefits from last month's major overhaul of the USA tax code.

Several Sam's Club stores abruptly closed Thursday, according to news reports.

The company said wage increases for Walmart store employees will take effect in February and will be about $300 million in addition to wage increases already planned.
