Panthers LB Thomas Davis to play one last season

Davis is Carolina's all-time leading tackler with 1,015.

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis has made it to two Pro Bowls since joining the National Football League in 2005, but the former Georgia star is nearing the end of his career.

"For me, it was a no-brainer", Davis said.

Last offseason, Davis got a one-year extension that runs through the 2018 season.

Davis, 34, has played linebacker for the Panthers since 2005, and has been a member of the team for his entire career.

In an interview with NFL.com, Davis said he will hang up his cleats to spend more time with family. He overcame a trio of torn ACLs in his right knee to play 93 games over the last six seasons, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2015 and 2016.

He racked up 76 tackles and 2.5 sacks this past season.

Davis, 34, wasn't named to his first Pro Bowl until 2015, but became a cult favorite in Charlotte due to his perseverance through a string of injuries including three torn ACLs between and the gnarly surgery scar he proudly displayed in Super Bowl 50, the result of surgery to fix the broken left arm he'd suffered in the NFC Championship Game two weeks earlier. He's seventh in team history with 13 career interceptions and eighth with 28 sacks.
