Lexus vehicles to feature Amazon Alexa

Toyota announced at CES on Tuesday that Amazon's Alexa would be integrated with its infotainment systems.

"This makes Toyota and Lexus vehicles among the first to bring the convenience of Alexa into the auto and onto the road", said Zack Hicks, senior vice president and chief information officer at Toyota Motor North America and CEO of Toyota Connected. Now, the news is already official and sources are saying that Amazon Alexa is now going to make it's debuted on Windows 10 PCs and will sit alongside Microsoft's preloaded Cortana assistant. The Alexa integration in the USA will be available via a software update through Acer Care Centre, but its wider availability is expected for sometime in the mid of 2018.

STUFFING AMAZON'S ALEXA into a pair of glasses it a bit of a jump form popping the virtual assistant into a speaker, but that's what smart glasses maker Vuzix has done. Additional hands-free commands will also be enabled to let users perform multiple operations using the personal assistant from Amazon. A motorist can ask Alexa to play music, order a cup of coffee from a nearby Starbuck's, or operate various home automation devices, turning up the thermostat or turning on the lights at home, for example.

His sentiments were echoed by Amazon Alexa Automotive boss John Scumniotales who stated "Our vision for Alexa is that she should be everywhere a customer might need her - at home, in the office, on phones - and in cars". Even with the longer wait, Klipsch will have some of the better looking options for voice-controlled audio gear when those two devices start shipping.

Voice has been a challenge for carmakers; Alexa could change that.
