Lebanese designer under fire for praising 'flawless' Gal Gadot

The Isreali actor was presented with the prestigious award, which recognises women who push the boundaries in entertainment, for her performance in Wonder Woman.

Saab's Instagram post saw some people share their frustration that a former member of the Israeli army would be promoted by the designer.

"All of these qualities I looked for, I found in her: she's full of heart, strength, compassion, and forgiveness". In doing so, she sets a positive example for humanity. "She gets confused, insecure, and she's not ideal - and that's what makes her real". The director said of Gal, "She knew the great importance of this character and what she could mean to the world if well done". It was one of three in the top 10 with a female lead and the only one with a female director, Gadot said, leaving the industry with "a long way to go".

The award, created previous year by the Association of National Advertisers, honors women in the film industry for their positive female representation in media.

Gal Gadot seized the moment at the Critics Choice Awards on Thursday night, dedicating much of her acceptance speech to the reckoning that has gripped Hollywood for the past few months.

Wonder Woman was one of the biggest films of 2017, earning positive critical acclaim and pushing past $3 billion at the worldwide box office. There were eight other films in the top 100 which were directed by females.

Gadot also alluded to the #MeToo campaign by mentioning the industry's role in educating for respect. My commitment to all of you is I will never be silenced and we will continue to band together to make strides uniting for equality'. Gadot will team up with Jenkins again for Wonder Woman 2, set for release on November 1, 2019.
