Lebanese designer takes Gal Gadot photo off Instagram after backlash

Gal Gadot in an Elie Saab dress as pictured in an awards show photo has prompted a backlash by some on social media who complained about the Israeli "Wonder Woman" actress wearing a garment from a Lebanese designer. The Israeli actress wore a blue Elie Saab gown to the National Board of Review Awards in NY on Tuesday, looking "flawless". Saab has since removed the image, which you can see above. But screenshots of the now-deleted post show that numerous designer's fans were not happy with him.

Following what seemed to be a blunder on Elie Saab's public Instagram account, the Lebanese fashion designer has found himself at the center of a hotly politicized and internationally discussed debacle.

"I love and respect Elie Saab, but is he really happy an Israeli actress wore a dress he designed?" on Twitter. She wrapped up: "We will continue to band together to make strides uniting for equality". After the post was deleted, she added that his team "was smart enough to remove the post when people started commenting".

Great night: In the caption Chris praised the awards night for continuing the discussion of sexual harassment spearheaded by the #MeToo and Time's Up movement

While Saab's account pulled the photo, it didn't offer any explanation or apology for doing so.

Gal Gadot seized the moment at the Critics Choice Awards on Thursday night, dedicating much of her acceptance speech to the reckoning that has gripped Hollywood for the past few months.

When Wonder Woman - the smash superhero hit of the summer - was released, Lebanon moved to ban the film since Gadot is an IDF veteran.
