Hunt for killer who raped 7yo in Pakistan

Two people were killed during the protests when police tried to prevent a crowd trying to attack a police station.

Pakistan police are continuing their hunt for a serial killer who they say raped and murdered a seven-year-old girl in Kasur, a city in eastern Pakistan.

On Thursday, protesters threw stones at government buildings and set cars and a local politician's office alight, complaining that police had not done more to stop violence against children.A local police spokesman told AFP news agency "up to 1,000" people had taken to the streets.

"We don't have any expectations from police, as we gave proof to police including the CCTV footage, but they could do nothing", her uncle Hafiz Muhammad Adnan told Reuters. The CM then also took only notice of the incident.

A police official speaking on condition on anonymity said two of Ansari's relatives had been interrogated and 26 locals are now in custody and being questioned.

Kasur had last attained local and global notoriety in 2015 when a gang of paedophiles running a child sex ring was busted in the city. On Jan 9, five days after she disappeared, labourers found her dead body from a trash pile.

The gang allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted at least 280 children in the area, blackmailed the families of the victims since 2009, and even sold video clips and images of the assault.

"We will not bury her until we get justice", he asserted at the time. "How was our child kidnapped from a busy market?" he asked. He added that police are waiting for forensic evidence to be collected and analyzed.

It is the 12th such murder in the town of Kasur in a year, and has raised concern that a serial killer may be on the loose.

Addressing media here, Khan said that the chief minister needs to conduct a "surgical strike" against the culprit (s) responsible for the rape and murder of minor Zainab.

"Initial autopsy report suggests that the girl was strangulated after rape", Hameed said. Scores of other people also gathered at Steel Bagh Mor near the hospital and protested with the girl's body in the middle of the road. A hashtag #JusticeforZainab has also started trending on social media.

"All institutions must work together, and implementation of laws must be strengthened", he said. The abuse was uncovered in 2015 and a number of suspects arrested.
