Bills fire Rick Dennison

The Bills have fired offensive coordinator Rick Dennison after just one season, the team announced Friday.

The Bills were fine on the ground this past season behind running back LeSean McCoy, the team averaging the sixth-best rushing attack with 126.1 yards per game.

Buffalo's offense topped 300 yards just nine times in 17 games and scored only eight touchdowns in its final seven games. Buffalo finished with a 9-7 record and lost 10-3 in an AFC wild-card game to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bills coach McDermott was non-committal when discussing any coaching staff decisions during an end of the season news conference on Tuesday.

"We're building this thing together", McDermott said then.

While the Bills gained just 263 total yards in the playoff game against the Jags, they were particularly chastised for the run-pass option called on first-and-goal from the Jacksonville 1-yard line in the second quarter.

The Bills will be looking for their fourth offensive coordinator in as many seasons after the firing of Greg Roman, departure of Anthony Lynn to the Charges and now firing of Dennison. McDermott said the team had not heard anything new from the league since their last comments on the matter.

Dennison was Kubiak's offensive coordinator in Houston from 2010-13 and had a previous stint as the Broncos' offensive coordinator from 2006-08. However, it also has been widely speculated that the Bills also will strongly consider making a change at quarterback and moving on from Tyrod Taylor this offseason.

The quarterback change backfired after Peterman threw five interceptions in the first half of a 54-24 loss.
