Sheriff's Office: 'Multiple deputies down' near Denver, Colorado

The man suspected of shooting seven people in Douglas County, including one deputy who died, has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Riehl. Two civilians were also injured.

"We do not have any information on civilian casualties at this time". "Zack was a good kid, smiley kid". "[He was] eager to work, eager to serve". Riehl reportedly fired more than 100 rounds.

"We have multiple officers down", Deputy Jason Blanchard said in a telephone interview on Sunday.

Riehl also maintained a YouTube page where he went on freaky rants against local police. "No status on the deputies and no status on civilian injuries", it said in a tweet.

Authorities in Colorado say a number of deputies were wounded after being called to the scene of a domestic disturbance in suburban Denver.

The suspect was well-known to authorities in the Denver area but had no criminal record, said Spurlock, who declined to name him until his identity was confirmed. "They went down within seconds of each other".

Douglas County deputies go back to Copper Canyon Apartments at 3404 E County Line Rd.on the report of a domestic disturbance.

"His wife told me today he loved this job more than any job he ever had", Spurlock said at a press conference. It's unclear if the suspect, a roommate or apartment worker let them into the unit. While the police have said that it did not look like Ziemba meant to use these weapons, they are still cautious as the case bears a resemblance to the Las Vegas attack where Stephen Craig Paddock gunned down 59 people - including himself - and injured 500 others on October 1 from the 32 floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel.

"If someone is not making an immediate threat, they can not be held for a mental evaluation". So it was more of an ambush-type attack on our officers.

An emergency shelter has been set up.

A SWAT team then entered the apartment and killed Riehl during a shootout.

Littleton Adventist Hospital reported receiving four patients.

Three patients with non-critical injuries were treated and released from Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, hospital spokeswoman Linda Watson said. Only minutes later, he heard gunshot blasts, Silknitter said.

The area was blocked off, and Silknitter said he saw at least 20 police vehicles. "I didn't know what I was going to find", he told Scripps TV station KMGH. "That will help me answer some of those questions", Spurlock said. "It's like something out of a movie".

The shooting took place at 5:07 a.m. after deputies arrived at an apartment complex at 3403 East County Line Rd. He passed away. Deputies Michael Doyle, Taylor Davis, and Jeffrey Pelle were also shot.
