Royals Rumors: KC offers Eric Hosmer a team record contract

Kansas City is not simply becoming a farm system for the rest of the league.

One club that is seeking to add is the St. Louis Cardinals.

A recent report from USA Today's Bob Nightengale that cited persons close to Hosmer revealed that two teams have already sent their contract offers to Hosmer.

Hosmer is coming off his best season, hitting.318 with 25 home runs and 94 RBIs.

However, a deal for free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer may be gaining traction.

Free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer received an offer of seven years and $147 million by the Kansas City Royals, reports USA Today. The numbers, meanwhile, suggest Hosmer is a very inconsistent player from year-to-year with a short track record of being the kind of offensive force typically associated with big money first basemen. It was reported that teams were interested in Danny Duffy at the Winter Meetings, but so far that Royals have not moved on this. He could be waiting to see if other suitors emerge. If the Royals were to trade Duffy, it would make sense to trade Salvador Perez as well to completely rebuild and receive prospects in return.

Hosmer has said to have been wanting at least an eight or nine-year deal.

Hosmer's resume includes four Gold Glove Awards, a Silver Slugger Award and an All-Star Game MVP Award from the 2016 Midsummer Classic, which was held in San Diego. Fox Sports Kansas City was recently bought by Disney. Hosmer has meant a lot to the Royals organization over the past seven years and his production on the field, combined with his contributions off the field and in the clubhouse are hard to replace.
