Rouhani calls on Macron to act over anti-Iran 'terrorists' in

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday visits Paris for talks with French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, seeking to start the New Year by warming relations with the European Union after a torrid 2017.

'When fake news is spread, it will be possibleto go to a judge and if appropriate have content taken down, user accounts deleted and ultimately websites blocked'.

"We criticise the fact that a terrorist group has a base in France and acts against the Iranian people... and we await action from the French government against this terrorist group", Rouhani told Macron, according to a report on Iranian state television. The CSA, France's TV and radio regulator, will also be given more power to fight any "any attempt at destabilisation" by TV stations owned or influenced by foreign governments.

French President Emmanuel Macron's upcoming visit to China, from January 8 to 10, is of great significance to bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily press briefing.

The Guardian reported that the upcoming legislation for websites will mean sites will have to reveal who is financing them, and the amount of money permitted for sponsored content would be limited.

"It probably has the effect of Macron", said Harris Interactive director of policy research, Jean-Daniel Levy.

Turkish Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said at a press conference on January 4 that Macron's remarks are based on a "lack of information", if not "prejudice".

In November, UK Prime Minister Theresa May also directly accused Russian Federation of seeking to meddle in the democratic affairs of other nations by planting fake stories in the media to try to sow discord in the West by "weaponizing information".

"At election time, on internet platforms", Macron said in his speech, "the rules applying to content won't be exactly the same".
