New book on Donald Trump's antics is already a bestseller

The GOP plans to keep trying to discredit the book over the weekend, though they may need to rewrite their talking points to help party officials defend Trump's "very stable genius" claim - particularly since his weird self-defense will just bring more attention on the subject, possibly overshadowing the president's weekend summit with Republican lawmakers at Camp David.

Michael Wolff's book, "Fire and Fury", was released Friday morning and already was listed as a No. 1 best seller on the Amazon website. I have recordings. I have notes.

Earlier Friday, Trump heaped praise on a major Republican donor family from distancing themselves from Bannon.

Trump frequently attacks the media, dubbing reports and outlets he considers unfavorable to him "fake news".

Wolff says the book is mostly based on talks with people who have worked closely with the president.

Michael Wolff's book is filled with anecdotes about Trump's staff belittling him behind his back and salacious details that would further stoke the fires of Trump-Russia collusion claims.

"Many of the accounts of what has happened in the Trump White House are in conflict with one another; many, in Trumpian fashion, are baldly untrue", he writes.

In response, the publisher moved the book's release date from next week to January 5, citing unprecedented demand.

But while several analysts, as well as Trump allies, questioned the veracity of some of Mr Wolff's claims, the controversy has increased pressure on Mr Trump, particularly in relation to comments attributed to Bannon about the Russian Federation investigation.

In the book, Bannon is quoted calling Ivanka Trump, "dumb as a brick". Some bookstores sold out in under 10 minutes because everybody wanted to know what was in this bombshell book and I'm sure that was Michael Wolff's plan from the very beginning.

Some of Mr. Bannon's preferred candidates, like former Rep. Michael Grimm of NY, denounced Mr. Bannon after his comments became public. Wolff said those concerns came from "100 percent of the people around him", including many people who have described him as "a moron, an idiot".

US President Donald Trump on Saturday rejected an author's accusations that he is mentally unfit for office and said his track record showed he is a "stable genius".

SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS: He repeatedly begged to speak with the president and was denied access, and he makes it sound like he was sitting outside the Oval Office every single day, which is just not the case.

When Bannon was sacked, Trump said, "he not only lost his job, he lost his mind".

"Fire and Fury" - which is available digitally - was released four days earlier than originally planned after excerpts of the book prompted the president's lawyers to send a cease and desist letter to the publisher.
