The freshman is considered by many to be the frontrunner for the award.

The outstanding OU freshman is one of 25 players named to the midseason candidate list for the prestigious annual award. She is one of three student-athletes from the Big Ten (Katelynn Flaherty and Kelsey Mitchell). He has nine double-double games (double digits in scoring and assists), has scored at least 20 points in 14 of his 15 games and 30 or more points five times this season.

Creighton senior guard Marcus Foster landed a spot on the Midseason Top 25 today for the John R. Wooden® Award presented by Wendy's®. Gustafson is now ranked in the top-15 nationally in 10 categories. A five-star recruit according to 247Sports, ESPN, Rivals and Scout, Young is the fourth McDonald's All-American from the state of Oklahoma to play for OU, joining Sooner legends Blake Griffin, Wayman Tisdale and Jeff Webster.

Landale was also this week named Hero Sports' Mid-Major Mid-season Player of the Year, and this latest recognition is unlikely to be the last this season.

Young has been the breakout star of the college basketball season. The country's leading scorer and assists man, Oklahoma's Trae Young headlines the list, while Duke's Grayson Allen, and Villanova's Jalen Brunson among others, are all there.
