'Bored' Russian steals wine in ram raid with stolen tank

According to regional news outlet, the unnamed culprit took the vehicle from a driving school, before failing to negotiate a bend, destroying a auto, and crashing into the shop front in the north-western town of Apatity.

The unidentified man swiped the Soviet-era MT-LB amphibious vehicle - known in the West as the M-1970 - from a Murmansk driving school and went on a rampage.

Russian TV channel Vesti said the suspect was also "bored" which it cited as the reason why the man stole the tank.

The man reportedly had trouble turning the tank around while rolling down a narrow street, and crashed into the storefront, running over a parked auto in the process.

In the Severnaya Street he first smashed a over a parked auto, then drove across the pathway and rammed into a shopwindow.

Footage shared on social media showed the man climbing out of a hatch, briefly inspecting the damage, and climbing into the shop through the broken window. Witnesses believed the man was intoxicated at the time, which seems apparent.

It is thought that he stole a bottle of wine from the store, and "it was with this very bottle that policemen detained him", reported Hibinform. The Independent notes "the shop was not licensed to sell alcohol that early in the morning".
