Dennis Kucinich files paperwork to run for OH governor

Former U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Democrat from Cleveland, designated a treasurer for an impending gubernatorial run on Monday.

And at a press conference on charter schools in April. Kucinich's opponents in the Democratic primary include Richard Cordray, who stepped down late a year ago as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, precipitating a clash within the Trump administration. The 71-year-old still needs to select a running mate and file a petition with 1,000 signatures by early February, the News-Sun reports.

"I think right now, with all the issues in politics in Ohio, I'd rather have a more engaged primary that's transparent and competitive than what the Republicans have been doing", said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper.

On the Republican side, Attorney General Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Jon Husted joined forces into one ticket with Mr. DeWine on top. GOP Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) is term-limited. Kucinich ran twice for the presidency and served eight terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a contributor for Fox News, Kucinich has made comments in defense of President Donald Trump that may isolate him in the congested field.
