More, more, more: Red Sox re-sign 1B Moreland

The Red Sox have announced their first big free agent signing is a familiar name - Mitch Moreland.

Over the course of his 149 regular-season appearances and 508 at-bats for the Red Sox, the longtime Rangers first baseman most recently hit.246 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs alongside a.326 on-base percentage.

A Gold Glove victor in 2016, Moreland answered that with a.995 fielding percentage last season.

Yet Monday's move - the Red Sox reportedly guaranteed Moreland $13 million across two seasons - could serve to further dilute the market for Hosmer's services.

Moreland has hit at least 20 home runs and 20 doubles in each of the last three season, making him and Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu the only first basemen in the league to accomplish that feat.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. After playing primarily against right-handed pitchers during his six seasons with the Rangers, lefty-hitting Moreland played almost every day for the Red Sox and got exposed.
