JT Realmuto Requested Trade from Marlins After Team Dealt Star Players

Yelich expects to have a conversation with Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill in the near future to discuss the situation.

Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto, the Marlins' two best remaining position players, are unhappy with new ownership's decision to trade Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and Dee Gordon.

According to Craig Mish of SiriusXM, the catcher has requested a trade.

The Miami Marlins have been selling off some of their most precious assets this offseason, and the players they have chosen to keep do not seem pleased about it. The Marlins have already sold off a number of high-profile pieces and Realmuto would presumably prefer to go to a place where he has a better chance to win.

Yelich plans to weigh what the Marlins tell him before informing them of his preference.

Realmuto's representatives at CAA spoke with the Marlins recently and expressed the catcher's desire to play elsewhere in 2018, said a source. But it would take some major persuading to ease Yelich's concerns. According to sources, the, and are among the clubs that have reached out to the Marlins on Yelich in recent days.

"We used the last couple of weeks continuing to lay the foundation for building a first-class, winning organization", Hill told ESPN on Monday. It's possible Yelich is headed in the same direction.

Realmuto is heading into his age-27 season and under team control through 2020.

Yelich, 24, hit.282 with 18 homers and 81 RBI and 16 stolen bases last season. He is a career.290 hitter with 59 homers, 293 RBIs and 72 steals in five big-league seasons.
