De Bruyne 'close to agreeing new deal' at Man City

Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne is close to signing a new six-year contract worth around £200,000-a-week to stay at the Etihad Stadium for the remainder of his prime years.

Having been on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Dele Alli, De Bruyne scored City's second goal of the game and produced an enthralling all-round performance.

The Belgian has four years left on the contract he signed after moving from Wolfsburg for £55million in 2015, but City want to replace it with a more lucrative long-term deal.

De Bruyne is looking at a double-your-money deal as he looks to boost his current salary-understood to be around £115,000 per week-to nearly twice that figure at around £210,000 per week.

It is thought the new deal could keep the 26-year-old at the club until the summer of 2024.

"I always say in football that a lot of things can happen very quickly, but I'm very happy here and the people at the club know that", he said in City's match programme ahead of the 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Belgium global moved to City from Wolfsburg two-and-a-half years ago and is leading this season's Premier League assists table, with eight, alongside team-mate David Silva.

Another player likely to agree an improved contract in the near future is striker Gabriel Jesus. Azpilicueta is right to come out as one of the leaders of the team saying we still have a chance. "I made the right decision coming to City and my family feels the same so everything is good".

Cesar Azpilicueta has warned Manchester City that Chelsea are still convinced that they can catch them in the race for the Premier League title this season.
