Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced that the 4G phone will be "effectively free" for users, but to prevent misuse of the scheme, JioPhone buyers will need to pay one-time fully refundable deposit of Rs 1,500.

Under this recharge plan priced at Rs 149, Reliance Jio offers 4.2 GB of high-speed data with an everyday limit of 0.15 GB for a validity period of 28 days. The validity of this plan is 28 days. Under the Airtel 149 plan, the company is offering free calls with data. It also has a Rs 199 plan that offers 1GB of 4G/3G data with unlimited local and STD calls for 28 days. Airtel 197 plan may not be available to all but to make sure if Airtel 197 plan with unlimited calls and data is available for your number or not, you will have to Check it on My Airtel App or on the Airtel India Website. The validity of Airtel 4G 147 plan is 28 days.

While small telecom firms chose to consolidate with bigger ones, aggressive pricing offering data war still remain between RJio and it's rival Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular.

Also customers can avail unlimited free voice calls including local, STD and roaming to all operators.

Recent data of telecom regulator TRAI, revealed that in India 4G network, Reliance Jio maintained leadership in providing broadband internet access with 138.6 million users and 24.67% market share in September 2017.

Under the new condition set by Jio for the users, handset buyers can get a refund of Rs 500 if they return the device in the first year and have made a recharge of Rs 1,500 during the year. The affordable monthly plan that you can use with Reliance Jio comes at Rs 149 only while Airtel's most affordable plan which offers unlimited calling is available at a recharge of Rs 199.

Both plans come with limitations of their own. If they manage to cross the threshold, the user will be charged at 30 paisa per minute for the extra calls. Apart from this, more than 1,000 calls cannot be made in a week. Post-exhaustion of daily data limit, speeds will be reduced to 64 Kbps.
