Carl Frampton secures points victory over Horacio Garcia on Belfast return

In his first fight since replacing his promoter-trainer team of Barry and Shane McGuigan with Frank Warren and Jamie Moore, he was expected to breeze past García.

30, is looking to give his career a much needed boost against Horacio Garcia, who he faces in a 10-round non-title bout at the SSE Arena in Belfast, after losing the WBA world title to Leo Santa Cruz on points on January 28.

Frampton now has his sights set on a trilogy with WBA (super) featherweight title holder Santa Cruz at Belfast's Windsor Park - or IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby.

Cut on his right eye by the fifth round, "The Jackal" certainly knew he was in a competitive clash.

Frampton's comeback fight against Garcia, who had former world champion and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez cheering him on from ringside, went the distance. It had appeared that the home fighter may have slipped, but referee Victor Loughlin called a knockdown with Frampton rising to his feet at the count of eight.

"[Leo] Santa Cruz and [Abner] Mares are fighting and [Josh] Warrington and [Lee] Selby will probably fight in the spring so I will have to wait".

"Fair play to the kid".

Carl Frampton made a winning return to the ring with a victory over Mexican Horacio Garcia and says he's ready for whatever comes his way next.

"I'll be ready for a world title next if I have to be". Who knows what's going to happen?

"I thought it was a good fight and everyone would have enjoyed that more than me", Frampton said. "I wanted a tough fight, I didn't want anything to be too easy coming back, but that has got the rust off". I expect more of myself, but I like to please the fans too. If a world title came next, I'm ready for it.

"That was the noisiest I've ever heard the [Odyssey] arena and it was electric". I believe that right now I'm the best featherweight in the world, I still believe that, and when I'm performing I can beat everyone, so I should be beating guys like Horacio Garcia.
