Jordan Spieth finishes US Open on a high note

The 27-year-old who went to Florida State and lives in South Florida, became the seventh consecutive major championship victor to become a first-time major victor.

In truth, 26-years-old Fleetwood is one of a cluster of players who can claim the coveted crown, but sadly and realistically the sole Brit capable of finishing on top of the pile.

He still had to go lower than anyone to win, and he was stout on Sunday - making six birdies, hitting 17 of 18 greens in regulation, and 12 of 16 fairways (including roasting a 3-wood 379 yards on the 72nd hole).

No one was more solid from start to finish than Koepka.

Koepka is now the seventh first-time major victor in a row, following on from Sergio Garcia, Jimmy Walker, Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson, Danny Willett and Jason Day.

Four guys shot 65 (7-under par). "Not your typical U.S. Open setup, but I'm a big fan".

Koepka, playing the back nine first, birdied four of his first seven holes.

Brooks Koepka won the U.S. Open in historic fashion. "But it made me feel a lot better seeing Brooks shoot five under".

ERIN, Wis. - A total of 5 under par often wins the U.S. Open, and that is the number Steve Stricker vaguely had in mind at the start of the week at Erin Hills.

Thomas, looking for more from where his record-setting 63 came from the day before, was out of the hunt by the middle of the front nine.

"If you had told me I was going to shoot 12-under this year at a U.S. Open and not win, I would have taken the bet for sure", he said.

"I definitely did make some good putts out there to keep things going, but I also made a couple bogeys that I really couldn't afford being a couple back at the time", he said. He putted for birdie to move to 2 under for the day and 2 over for the tournament. "This one was a challenge to get in". So on 13 I was just trying to be aggressive and hit the back of the hole. "The conditions were so tough", Harman said.

"I just felt like I should be winning more", he said, explaining frustrations that he now has exorcised, at least for the time being.

Erin Hills, an 11-year-old course shaped out of Wisconsin pastureland, didn't put up much of a fight without much wind.

Australia's Marc Leishman shot a final round 75 to finish at one-under, in a tie for 27th.

Still hanging around was Rickie Fowler, who made 15-foot birdie putts on both par 5s to atone for some wild driving early on in which he had to scramble for pars. I love you more than anything.

Despite winds gusting up to 25mph which forced tournament officials to change the pin position on the par-three 13th, Spieth showed what was still possible with a closing 69.

Snedeker has never won a major, either, though he has been through the emotional ringer at Augusta National and Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

Playing her sixth career tour event, Jaengkit earned $19,500 to jump from 131st to 16th on the money list with $20,276. He won the next day to graduate to the European Tour.

"So, I think I didn't really understand the beef that it was getting for the low scores". But I think (the course has) played great.
