It's on! Mayweather vs. McGregor this summer in Las Vegas

It was the day the announcement came after months of speculation that Conor McGregor will step into the boxing world, to take one one of the greatest ever to put on the gloves. Such a statement would have sounded truly ridiculous a year ago.

Critics have branded the crossover bout a money-making circus. So, "Money" is probably going to do his best to make sure that doesn't happen. The same reason is what convinced McGregor to step into an unfamiliar arena of combat that will nearly surely end in defeat.

But, those who appear to be more educated on professional fighting seem to agree that McGregor is going to get his ass kicked.

Mayweather is known as one of the most successful boxers in history and as a UFC Champion, McGregor's feats are not to be overlooked.

Perhaps it is still ridiculous.

The Irishman is arguably the biggest selling pay per view star in combat sports now, but will be fighting in his first boxing bout against one of the greatest boxer's of all time.

The contest, which will be fought under boxing rules over 12 three-minute rounds, brings together two of combat sports' brashest talkers and slickest practitioners with the added lure of the "Sport of Kings" against its brash young cousin.

But does the public really care about that?

If McGregor pulls that off, it would rank among the greatest boxing upsets of all time.

"The reason Conor McGregor's as big as he is is he'll fight anybody, anywhere, any time". Fight fans are desperate to see which sport comes out on top. Logically, he doesn't have much of a chance.

The record was set for his 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao, which amassed $400m (£315m). It became this thing were it was so impossible to get tickets, that after you already paid for them, that people started canceling their rooms and all kind of things.

Think Mayweather-McGregor is a freak show?

Earlier Wednesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved a request by Mayweather Promotions to hold a boxing event in Las Vegas on August 26.
