For the casual, non-nerdy users the Apple WWDC 2017 drew the most attention for the all-new iOS 11 - the next iteration of the iPhone and iPad OS.

2017, Apple unveiled an array of new products, features and software.

Furthermore, iOS 11 brings a new compression technology - High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) - that will conserve space whenever needed. One of the biggest things that Apple is cramming into iOS 11 is a new augmented reality framework. Onstage, Apple quickly translated a sentence from English to Chinese - at launch, the feature will include translation support in Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish. They're also adding new photo effects, such as long exposure. The public beta for macOS High Sierra will start rolling out in June.

Apple also used its annual developer meeting in San Jose, California - its largest ever with some 5,000 people attending - to offer hints about so-called augmented reality technology.

The service was rumored to be in the works earlier this year and represents Apple's latest attempt to bolster its Apple Pay service.

WatchOS 4 will also bring updates to the watch's fitness tracking, including a new user interface for the workout app and new integrations with gym equipment manufacturers.
