Apple pushes Siri to the fore at annual developer conference

For many, tvOS might not be too important but Apple will clearly share its future plans tonight at WWDC 2017. With the company planning as many as 10 original television series by the end of this year, the update will make video content far more prominent, Apple's music guru Jimmy Iovine told Bloomberg in April. At time of writing there is strong expectation Apple will upgrade its pro tablets, at WWDC.

Then, during the week, paying attendees can go to workshops and other classes with Apple employees who walk will them through the new features discussed in the keynote.

You'll probably also be able to ask it to control "smart home" gadgets like thermostats or light switches.

Tune into the live stream, linked below, to watch the conference online at 10:00am PT, 1:00pm ET. Now as the device pipeline fills, the company is shining more of the spotlight on hardware to woo the developers needed to create accompanying apps. In addition, the usual previews of the forthcoming Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV OS will also form part of the brand's presentations, as has been convention.

Apart from that some of the other announcements, included a facility for auto makers develop their own CarPlay apps, expansion of Apple's smart home platform, called HomeKit, and providing public transit directions in Apple Maps. This way, in case the update fails to live up to our expectations, we'll have an option to downgrade to the most recent signed release.

Siri can now translate for you.

It's also adding a feature to block notifications while the phone is in Car Play mode. There's also whispers of a 10.5in iPad Pro announcement, but we'll have to wait and see.

However, Siri has fallen behind in the race owing to Apple's aversion to opening itself to third-party developers, according to analysts. The last time this happened was in March this year, just head of the launch of the new iPad (2017) and the iPhone 7 (PRODUCT) RED models.

There's a new Siri watchface on Apple Watches, thanks to the newest watchOS update.

These computers wouldn't be redesigned, but they would get a faster chip that would help them last a little longer before becoming outdated.

iOS 11 comes with a raft of new features, which were unveiled during the company's WWDC 17 keynote in San Jose.

Apple's WWDC gets underway today, and with it, the Cupertino-based outfit is expected to announce updates to its popular software's.

Assuming you have what's required, you can watch the keynote live here. Apple is also cutting the basic price for the MacBook's 13-inch model by $300. Apple further claims the internal battery will be able to deliver 10 hours of use between charges.

It's widely expected that Apple will ditch its favoured metal finish in order to adopt a glass-backed design that will make wireless charging possible.

"There is so much momentum building around these speakers that it would be hard for Apple not to come out with one", said industry analyst Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights & Strategy.

There's also a new markup feature that works with Apple Pencil. It looks as though Apple has been paying attention and is getting ready to make iOS a bit friendlier towards productivity tasks. But all this may change in the upcoming WWDC if Apple does unveil a bigger, better smart speaker than its competitors.

Expect Apple's speaker to be better-looking than Amazon and Google's gizmos and more stylish with better sound quality.
