Spurs' Kawhi Leonard re-injures left ankle, done for Game 1

Not since the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals have the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs met in the NBA Playoffs.

This won't be the case for the Spurs on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 against the Warriors, as the San Antonio Express-News is reporting that head coach Gregg Popovich confirmed that Kawhi Leonard will play in the contest after being a full participant in Saturday's practice.

I assume they mean a single game or two. Golden State is the better team on paper, but Coach Pop has seen these Warriors celebrate winning his conference the last two seasons.

Whether the Spurs will have Leonard available is unknown. Golden State's fourth-quarter offense needs to struggle against another team besides just the Cavs. "We were doing really well".

Well, Kevin, we can probably assume that Kerr was yelling just a little while he watched the Warriors get beat for loose balls and offensive rebounds and give up a lot of open shots.

Stephen Curry scored 40 points and Kevin Durant 34 to power a stunning second-half comeback that lifted Golden State over San Antonio 113-111 Sunday in an National Basketball Association playoff thriller.

From tip to the point of Leonard's injury, the Spurs had complete control.

Aldridge was the linchpin, posting 34 points and 12 rebounds, but he had plenty of help as the second-seeded Spurs set a date opposite top-seeded Golden State. Popovich, who faced off against Brown during the 2007 NBA Finals (San Antonio Spurs vs Cleveland Cavaliers), has utmost respect for his former assistant. We were trying to take the air out of the gym.

"A great opportunity and we let it slip away". San Antonio has a culture, a coach and a confidence that things are never desperate.

The Spurs led by as many as 25 points and, with the exception of a couple minutes in the first quarter, led for much of the first 44 minutes of the game.

Curry scored 21 of his points on 7-of-16 shooting on 3-pointers.

Ginobili finished with 17 for the Spurs, connecting on seven of his 10 shots.

The game also turned on the glass.

For Leonard's part, he downplayed the notion that it was a dirty play. "Like on goal? No", Leonard said afterward. "It's hard to tell (about Tuesday)". I hate that anybody going down like that with injury.

Leonard said he thought Pachulia's play - he stepped under Leonard on a long jump shot - was not intentional. We have a veteran team. "I think it motivates us knowing that we played the way we did for that amount of time".

Kawhi Leonard is left in pain on the floor after landing on Zaza Pachulia's foot in the third quarter.

After he left the game, the Warriors immediately went on a massive run, and eventually found a way to pull out the 113-111 victory.

The Warriors exploded on an 18-0 run that cut San Antonio's lead to five, and they were back in business. Coach Mike Brown said afterward the injury is not serious.

It might sound ridiculous but that's what exactly happened in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs. They didn't make a single three-pointer until shortly after that.

Golden State is a -1050 favorite in the series and they should be. Golden State forward Draymond Green said he had hoped to see more from Cleveland's East rivals.

The NBA schedule-maker decided not to have these teams play again for nearly five months.
